Auxiliary Communication Panel

Using this panel commands are given to the TACAN-System (Tactical Air Navigation) and IFF-Mode (Identify friend or foe). Further information is not available for now, at it is CLASSIFIED. TACAN-Channels can be selected as a back-up method. Normally selection is achieved using the ICP and the DED. This panel is located on the left console.

Information to TACAN

The TACAN provides permanent data about direction and distance to a selected TACAN-transmitter up to a distance of 400 miles. The bearing, course, distance and relative position to pre-selected course are shown on the HSI according to the selection made with the INT MODE selector button on the INSTR Panel. TACAN uses two different bands X is used by ground- stations, while Y can be used by aircraft (tankers, for example), as well as ground-stations. TACAN is the analog device to the civilian VOR.
