The Airspeed Indicator shows speeds ranging between 80 and 800 kts. The outer scale shows the speed in knots, as the inner scales delivers the speed in terms of Mach. (speed of sound). The data delivered by this instrument is an "Indicated Airspeed", as this speed varies according to the flight level. At high level air becomes thinner, the Airspeed Indicator is a backup of the speed indicator of the HUD.
